DESPITE hitting the £500,000 target, fundraisers have kept holding events to help Oscar Saxelby-Lee.

Within three weeks of finding out Oscar, five, will need urgent treatment to beat his fight against leukaemia, the community has successfully teamed up and raised the needed funds for his treatment in Singapore.

The specialist treatment CAR-T cell therapy is not available on the NHS.

Staff and members of Fit3Sixty in Shrub Hill have taken part in a 24-hour challenge.

Members had to constantly keep a ‘ski-erg’ moving throughout the duration. A ski-erg is a skiing machine that challenges strength and endurance.

The challenge started at 8pm on October 10 and continued until 8pm on October 11.

Worcester Warriors staged a charity rugby match between the police forces West Mercia and Warwickshire on October 9 and raised around £30,000 for the seriously ill boy.

More than 2,100 spectators saw West Mercia Police defeat Warwickshire Police at the Sixways stadium.

Oscar’s classmates and staff at Pitmaston Primary School marched out onto the pitch and were applauded by the crowd.

Managing director of Warriors, Peter Kelly said: “What an amazing evening for a fantastic cause. Oscar’s story has touched the hearts of people from across the globe but in our local community in particular.

“It was an evening that showed the community at its very best with different organisations united in a common cause. Warriors were proud to be part of such a special occasion.”

Caroline Balmer will be running the New York marathon on November 3 in aid of Oscar.

Mrs Balmer, from Worcester, said: “I have seen Oscar’s appeal all over the news, so I thought this was an ideal opportunity to raise funds for him.

“I applied last year to enter the marathon. Apparently, it’s really hard to get accepted.

"I used to be a keen runner but stopped while I set up my business. I just started running again last year.

“This will be my first marathon. I feel nervous but also excited.”
