A DISABLED woman says she has bruised her head after tripping over loose floor tiles in her flat which she says has been caused by asbestos.

Janet Duncan claims her floor tiles in her property in Worcester have become loose due to asbestos in the building.

She said she reported the issue to housing association Citizen but says she feels ignored.

Miss Duncan, who uses a three wheeled walking frame because she has lost feeling on the right side of her body, claims the problem has been ongoing for over 18 months.

She said she has tripped over the lifted tiles which has left a bruise on her forehead, adding: “I have bruised my face from when I keep falling and from when my frame gets caught.

“The floor tiles in my living room, hall and bedroom have lifted and the glue is seeping through.

“I have tried my hardest scrubbing the glue off the floor but it’s difficult for me to get down there. There is glue everywhere. It keeps getting stuck to my cat, Lucy. I can’t get it off her.

“There are also tiles missing from the floor and I have tripped over them.”

Miss Duncan, aged 63, has been living at her home in St Paul’s Street for 22 years.

She added: “The inspector told me they will take up the living room floor as this is their main concern. I will have to do the rest of my flat and also pay for new flooring.”

However, a spokesman for Citizen told the Worcester News the company will replace the floor tiles in her living room and hallway at no charge. Citizen declined to comment on the asbestos.

The spokesman said: “We are aware of the issues in Ms Duncan’s property and we are working with her to resolve them.

“Our teams attended Ms Duncan’s home after she reported her damaged floor tiles to us. "The health and safety of our customers is our top priority and while we have no reason to believe there is any immediate health and safety concern, given the nature of the property we will be replacing the tiles in her living room and hallway as soon as possible. We will not be charging Ms Duncan for this work.” Miss Duncan added: “If my living room has asbestos, surely the rest of my flat does and the other 55 flats in my building. It’s like living in hell. I cannot stop crying. I have got enough problems in my life and don’t need this. I just want it sorted."
