CONCERNS are being raised after burglaries and an increase of suspicious activity in Battenhall and St Peter's.

Battenhall ward city councillor Louis Stephen says he had heard there had been three burglaries in recent days, two in St Peter's including one on Friday and another on Saturday night, and a further one in Timberdine on Saturday.

After Sebright Avenue resident Becki Smith posted on social media about a group of four men snooping around gardens and cars, this led the councillor to contact the police.

Cllr Stephen said: "There seems to be a spike in crime at the moment, so I have contacted the police about it.

"As always I know their message will be that it is really important if people see someone trying car door handles, or walking round the backs of houses, to call the police on 101.

"Police can only act on information if they have got it."

Mrs Smith said the four men were snooping around her house on Friday night.

"They climbed over the wall onto our drive from our neighbour's property," Mrs Smith said.

"It happened about 7.40pm on Friday, the security light went off. Our camera picked them up and my husband scared them off.

"I reported it to the police.

"The police have been doing door-to-door knocks, somebody saw my post (on social media) the police came round and we gave our CCTV to them.

"And we gave them a description of the men."

Residents in the road told us that the area was generally quiet although one resident told us someone stole money from their kitchen a few years ago, which lead to them increasing their security.

West Mercia Police was unavailable for comment.

In February 2017 police investigated a number of burglaries in Battenhall and Nunnery and in one of the burglaries, a large amount of jewellery was stolen from a home in Bath Road after it is thought an offender broke in through the back garden.
