KIDS across Herefordshire are invited to get creative with a special art competition.

Wye Valley NHS Trust is asking primary school children to dig out their paints, pastels and crayons to mark the £23.6 million investment in new wards at Hereford County Hospital.

They will replace the remaining two old hutted wards which were built in the 1940s as a temporary measure.

Budding artists are being asked to create posters to share their vision for the ideal hospital or healthcare centre of the future.

As well as the chance to see their artwork on display, the winner will receive £500 in art supplies for their school and a trip to Westminster for a very special day out.

Jane Ives from Wye Valley NHS Trust, said: “The new wards which will allow us to give the kind of care we’d want for our families and friends in a modern environment.

“The old hutted wards have reached the end of their working lives. It’s a testament to our staff that they manage to continue to deliver first class care in the huts.

“The art project is just one way in which we are trying to help the whole community feel part of this exciting development.”

The competition will be supported by a range of school resources, helping children to learn about the history of the NHS and how medicine is changing, and will run until 15 November.
