SO Anytime Fitness won't quite be anytime in Diglis, after nearby residents successfully opposed the gym's plans to open 24/7.
Instead, 'Anytime' will be 6am-11pm Fitness in Diglis, and while you could argue that the gym opening 24/7 wouldn't actually make any difference to the lives of residents because, surely, nobody goes to the gym after 11pm or before 6am, there would have been an impact.
For some people would go to the gym between midnight and 5am – shift workers, insomniacs and those wishing to immediately burn off the sins of a night out drinking, perhaps? – and if they're banging around with weights at those times and you live within earshot, you'll be woken up.
Although Anytime has taken steps to soundproof the gym, if you drop a barbell or let the weight stack slam shut on the leg press machine, it makes a loud noise.
Generally, Anytime gyms are located away from residential areas but, in Diglis, that's not the case and so the sensible decision was for the opening hours to be restricted to 6am to 11pm. That's why Worcester City Council approved the application.
