MORE than £3,000 was raised for disadvantaged children at a Worcestershire charity's annual horseracing night.

Wooden Spoon hosted 120 racegoers at the Graeme Hick Pavilion ay Worcestershire Country Cricket Club's Blackfinch New Road ground.

This event, now in its third year and organised by committee member Laura Osborne, regularly sells out thanks to the great support from the Wooden Spoon membership and the business community.

There were six races on the card culminating in the final race where all eight horses were auctioned off to the guests. Gordon Farmiloe received the prize in the winner's enclosure from Wooden Spoon chairman John Gibson after 'HorseyMacHorseface' won the last race.

The event raised £3,000 which will be used to projects for disadvantaged children within the county, Kellie Fieldhouse of Worcestershire Mortgages Services Ltd sponsored the evening.

Wooden Spoon will be opening two projects in 2020 at a cost of over £40,000 thanks to funds raised within Worcestershire by its members.

Worcestershire Wooden Spoon has now raised approaching £350,000 for projects within our county.

The charity's next First Thursday networking event is December 5 at Bottles wine bar in New Street, Worcester and new members are always welcome. Contact laura@headturnersearch.co.uk for more.
