VANDALS have smashed windows and damaged children's play equipment in an attack on a Worcester nursery.

Woodgreen Day Nursery, in Trotshill Lane East, was vandalised over the weekend.

The offenders broke into the nursery in Warndon and caused damage in every room, which included ripping a fridge door off.

An email, which was sent out to parents and shared on the Warndon Village Community Group’s Facebook page on Monday, February 17: “Sadly the nursery has been broken into and each room has been vandalised over the weekend.

"We are still waiting for the police to arrive and are unable to enter the building. We are so sorry for this inconvenience, but please arrange alternative childcare for today and we shall keep you posted on developments.”

Woodgreen Day Nursery posted on its Facebook page later that day: “Thank you all for your patience and understanding today. It has been a tough day for us all, however, we are back open tomorrow as normal. An email will follow.”

Another post said: “We have been completely overwhelmed by your generosity, kindness and understanding during such a testing time. Thank you so much for the flowers and treats for the staff, and the gifts of new resources. At Woodgreen - our staff, our children, our parents - we truly are a family.”

Police are appealing for witnesses following the crime, which is believed to have happened between February 14 at 5pm and February 17 at 7.35am. If you saw anything, call 101 and quote reference number 0095s.

Parents have posted messages of support on the nursery’s Facebook page.

Caroline Foster said: “This is just so awful. Thank you for all your hard work in restoring some normality in order to be able to open tomorrow. Your hard work is really appreciated.”

Chloe Bishop said: “Hope you are all ok. Well done for getting through it to make it perfect again for the children, it shows how hardworking and determined you all, just the kind of people I want looking after my child.”
