A HARD-hitting film exploring the impact of domestic violence on children has been unveiled by a Black Country charity.

'The Hidden Scars', written and directed by Shaz Saleem, explores the devastating impact domestic violence can have on youngsters and urges victims to report their abuser.

The team at the Saleem Foundation premiered the film at a special screening in Halesowen last weekend in front of a packed out audience.

The film starred local acting talent, with some of the film's actors, including Nicoletta Barrett, Hattie Levett-Dunn and Alexander Westwood, taking part in a question and answer panel after the screening.

Young actors Thomas Griffiths and Mara Ubhi from Tividale Community Primary School were also praised for their sensitive performance.

Shaz Saleem, founder of charity and director of the film, said: “Today was tough for so many people who have experienced abuse, but they are so brave and attended to help us raise awareness.

"We want to thank everyone who supported us and we hope we are able to get our message out and more importantly save a life. We would encourage anyone who has witnessed or is a victim to please speak out.”

The premiere, which was followed by an awareness afternoon in the Cornbow Shopping Centre, was attended by the Mayor of Dudley councillor David Stanley; leader of Dudley Council councillor Patrick Harley and Dudley's top cop chief superintendent Sally Bourner.

Councillor Steve Waltho, chairman of the Saleem Foundation, said: “This was an amazing event and we thank all those in attendance and to our sponsors Nationwide Assist, Toyota and Express Taxis Halesowen who have supported us and more importantly we thank Eve from the Cornbow Shopping centre for allowing us to host this event. Everyone really felt the film was powerful and moving and they all stated it made an impact.”
