It is true that the old County Hospital and old General Hospital combined had more bed spaces than the new County Hospital, however due to the lack of investment in the old buildings the usable bed spaces were somewhat less. Areas were dilapidated, often damp and occasionally infested with rodents. The presence of asbestos and the removal process often meant that areas could not be used. Remember the old so called 'hutted' wards?
The new County Hospital is much more efficient organisation with highly skilled, motivated and dedicated staff.
