KEY workers' children have been putting their time to good use in Ross-on-Wye by manufacturing visors for the NHS.

Pupils at John Kyrle High School, which has remained open for the children of key workers, have been working with Head of Design and Technology Johan Nieuwoudt on the design and production of perspex visors to be distributed to Herefordshire's NHS surgeries and pharmacies.

Created using the school's laser cutter and design software, the technology department have already made several hundred visors to help protect NHS staff.

The science department has also provided hand sanitiser, gloves, and more than a hundred pairs of goggles to frontline staff at Ross Community Hospital and local GP surgeries across Ross, the Forest of Dean and Monmouth, while staff are today visiting a care home to provide personal protection equipment.

Headmaster Nigel Griffiths said: “The school’s role has changed – we are now the backup to the front-line. "We are happy to do what we can with childcare for key workers or using our resources and equipment to provide protection equipment. We all have to do our bit in the fight against this virus.”
