SIR – I was greatly saddened to hear that Ken Russell, the Royal Worcester porcelain master gilder, had passed away.
I first met Ken about 10 years ago at the Museum of Royal Worcester while carrying out research in the archives.
What struck me about Ken then was that he was as interested in my work as I was interested in his.
His continued interest in my work never wavered. We both shared a massive appreciation of the skills of the past gilders, painters and reticulators that worked for the much-missed company.
Ken was always a cheerful and friendly demonstrator of his consummate skills and he undoubtedly enhanced the Museum of Royal Worcester visitor experience.
He will be greatly missed.
