POLICE made two arrests when an officer witnessed violence outside a Worcester hotel, calling for back-up.

An officer on routine patrol witnessed physical disorder outside the Fownes Hotel at around 9pm on Friday as several cars rushed to the scene, blocking a service road off City Walls Road.

However, a hotel spokesman said neither the complainant nor the suspects were resident at the hotel and that staff had tried to help the injured man, calling an ambulance for him when he came inside 'for help'.

Assistant manager Julie Merrick said: "He came into the Fownes for help because he knew we were open. The incident did not happen within Fownes Hotel grounds."

A police spokesman said: “The officer called for back-up and a number of vehicles attended. Two men were arrested for affray and have been bailed.”

The Fownes has helped home 50 rough sleepers during the coronavirus pandemic as well as key workers and people displaced by recent floods.
