MORETON-in-Marsh Town Council has begun a consultation into plans to secure the former Royal British Legion (RBL) site for 'parking and transport' use.

The former RBL site in New Road has been vacant since 2008, and the Town Council believes the site to be a "logical centre" for a transport centre in Moreton, with mentions of 'sustainable transport options' as well as extra car parking and an express service on the railway.

The consultation is required as the Town Council aims to borrow some of the cost of the scheme from the Public Works Loan Board (PWLB) - a low-interest government scheme to help local councils invest in their areas and improve facilities.

A statement from Moreton Town Council said: "This issue has arisen now and as residents and business try to recover from the effect of COVID 19 it is even more important to look to the future for Moreton and make a choice."

The council is holding a number of virtual question and answer sessions, the first of which took place on June 24.

Meanwhile, this Saturday, July 4, the council will hold a drop in event, between 10am and 1pm, at the Town Council's car park to answer any questions residents may have about the project.

The consultation that has been sent out to Moreton residents needs to be returned in the prepaid envelope by July 17.
