A CARE home resident in Malvern has been treated to a special gift to keep spirits up during lockdown.

Former Malvern Town FC player Colin Higgs, who lives at Blossom House in Avenue Road, has been sharing his memories as part of the club's Resident of the Week system.

Having shared his story, Malvern Town sent him a letter and an invitation for him and a guest to come and watch a match when lockdown is over.

Nicola Thompson from Blossom House said: "We are really driving person-centred support and processes at Blossom House and using this time to reflect and work even closer with our residents and their natural networks to ensure that our care and support is always tailored around the individuals’ needs, aspirations and wishes.

"Every week we pay particular attention to an individuals’ care and support plans and exploring an ‘achievable outcome’ for them.

"Colin is an avid Malvern Town FC supporter and in the past has played for the team he so passionately talks about.

"He speaks about past games and experiences with so much joy and pride and a real twinkle in his eye.

"We decided to contact the club and tell them about Colin and not only did they send him a personal letter of thanks and appreciation but also an invitation for him and a guest to attend a match once football returns.

"He was delighted to receive this and can’t wait to come along and take in a game."

An MTFC spokesman said: "We can’t wait to see Colin and treat him like a King.

"He is very much part of the Malvern Town FC family and we thank him most sincerely for his support and efforts on behalf of the club."
