A HEART-BROKEN mother will jump out of a plane later this year to raise money for the hospice who cared for her family when daughter Lily-Mae died of cancer aged 7.

Liz Bishop of Ronkswood, Worcester has decided to face her fears and is doing a charity skydive in September to raise money for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

The mother of three said: “I’ve always wanted to do a skydive as a challenge. I’m really scared of heights which will make it more challenging.

“It is so so important to me to do whatever I can to raise money for Acorn’s as a thank you for the support they have given us over the years.

“They are a fantastic charity and I’d have been lost without the support they have offered. I’d like to help raise much needed funds so that they can continue to support other families.”

Miss Bishop sadly lost daughter Lily-Mae to cancer when she was just seven years old. The girl described as “cheeky, fun and mischievous spent most of her short life in and out of hospital battling various medical conditions.

Miss Bishop said: “The day Lily-Mae died was devastating. She has many many operations and procedures to try and get rid of the tumours all over her body. She fought so hard, but doctors told us she was terminal in 2015.

“Although we knew she was dying I still held out hope, right until the end. I still felt there was something more we could do. The day she died we were staying at Acorn’s Hospice, they had just bathed her and got her into bed. She took her last breath at ten past two on the 25th of June, 2018.”

Miss Bishop said although it was a devastating time for the whole family, Acorn’s Hospice made it bearable. She said: “Their ongoing support has been second to none. They were like a second family to Lily, she absolutely adored gong there and the staff idolised her. Now it is my turn to pay it back to them so they can help another family.”

Zoe Baggott, Senior Fundraising Manager at Acorns, said: “We’re honoured that Liz has chosen to remember Lily-Mai by taking on this incredibly brave challenge for Acorns, especially as she’s scared of heights.

“I want to wish Liz the best of luck with her skydive and say a massive thank you from everyone at Acorns. Every penny she raises will help us continue providing vital care and support for children and families when they need it most.”
