HEREFORD'S iconic Green Dragon Hotel is poised to reopen following the easing of coronavirus lockdown regulations.

Invited guests, including the Mayor of Hereford Kath Hey, were at a reception at the hotel today to hear that it will be back in business from 10am tomorrow (Saturday, August 1).

Managing director Julian Vaughan said: "The forced closure of the hotel has bought operational and financial challenges.

"It is with thanks to our shareholders and our bank that we are able to reopen tomorrow.

"With their support and the support of the people of Herefordshire, the Green Dragon Hotel is in a strong position.

"I am now very excited to see our team back at work, and we are ready to safely invite guests back to the hotel."

Operating procedures have been adapted to ensure the safety of guests and staff, with measures including social distancing and enhanced cleaning regimes.

All staff are receiving Covid-19 awareness training and will be signing daily health declarations and have their temperatures checked before starting their shift.

Long a jewel in Hereford's crown, the Green Dragon in Broad Street had fallen into disrepair in recent years, but has undergone a dramatic transformation since it was acquired by a group of Herefordshire investors keen to restore it to its former glory.

The hotel's Garrick Lounge will be serving lunch, cakes and afternoon teas daily from 10am to 5pm, while the Hereford Restaurant, serving a mix of classic and modern dishes with a spotlight on local, seasonal, and sustainable produce is open for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays and for Sunday lunch.

The famous ballroom will be open on Friday and Saturdays serving cocktails and a special menu from the Offa Bar.

Tables must be booked. Visit www.greendragonhotel.com
