LEDBURY Community Day will be marking its seventh anniversary this June, for an annual event which, by now, is very much a popular town tradition.

The purpose of previous Community Days has been to put on display the best that Ledbury can offer, especially in terms of community-based organisations, and this year will be no exception.

More that 70 groups have signed up to take part.

Event spokesman, Griff Holliday said: "There will be lots to see and do and discover.

"It’s a great time to discover what groups and organisations serving Ledbury and district do, how they can help you and how you can help them in all kinds of ways. Highlights this year include meeting our Army Cadets; trying your hand at bowls at the Bowling Club and the Community Centre; riding on a fire engine, which was popular last year; exploring the magic of bell-ringing under the Market House; trying out fitness equipment courtesy of Halo, and finding out about Ledbury Scouts’ 100th anniversary and the Maritime Cadets’ replica field gun.

"Our Community Brass Band will be bringing joy to the High Street and our U3A Recorder Consort will bring delight to St Michael’s Church. Stars Theatre Arts will put on a dance and gymnastics show at the Community Centre. The Community Centre, St Katherine’s Hall and the Burgage Hall will be full of groups offering sports, education, environmental and leisure activities, ways to volunteer in the community, and ways to help your own welfare. Ledbury Rotary are bringing an Iron Lung exhibition to Ledbury to demonstrate their work in fighting polio in the world, and the Refugee Support Group will tell of their successes in spreading help from Ledbury to those in most need."

There will also be the opportunity to visit Ledbury's heritage buildings, including the Master’s House, where there will be a blacksmith demonstration, a book sale, and details of Ledbury Poetry Festival.

Most events will take place from 10am to 2pm.

Ledbury Horticultural Society will be even be offering a freebie.

Kelvin Lynch said: "We will be one of the stall holders in St Katherine’s Hall . The 2019 Flower Show schedule will be available to pick up and also a free geranium plug plant. These plants will be judged at the Flower show on August Bank Holiday Monday for a special prize."
