BREDON Star secured an important 19-8 win over Southmead to move away from their opponents in Gloucester Division One.
The eighth-placed hosts scored early tries through Aaron Ridley and Ross Attwood, but Southmead kept causing problems with strong carries through the forwards and their winger crashed over in the corner.
A visitors’ penalty made the score 12-8, but a prolonged period of Star pressure resulted in Pierre Molyneux powering over and Joe Carolan converting.
There were no points in the second-half in deteriorating light and pitch conditions.
Star, who are six points off the bottom of the table, host second-placed Brockworth on Saturday.
