PERSHORE prospect Tazmin Pugh has secured an England junior team place for a full international meeting in Russia in May.

The 15-year-old from Ellesmere College Titans will mainly compete in the butterfly events in Moscow for those born in 2000 after impressing in Luxembourg for the West Midlands.

Pugh claimed junior gold medals for those born in 1999 or 2000 in the 400-metre individual medley and 200m butterfly with silvers in the 100m butterfly and 100m backstroke.

She also made open finals for over 18s, coming sixth in the 200m butterfly ‘A’ event, fifth in the 100m butterfly ‘A’ race and ninth in the 100m backstroke ‘B’ contest.

Titans head coach Alan Bircher said: “Tazmin has put herself in the shop window with trials for junior international selection fast approaching.”

In the 200m butterfly, Pugh’s time of two minutes 14.25 seconds was a new West Midlands junior record and the seventh fastest time ever by a 15-year-old in the United Kingdom.

She swam a personal best of 1.01.60 in the 100m butterfly and was ninth in the individual International Swimming Federation points.

Evesham’s Chloe Golding, 16, won the 100m backstroke ‘B’ final in 1.04.48 and finished fifth in the 50m ‘B’ final in 31.24.
