A POOR batting display sentenced Shipston-on-Stour Cricket Club to a four-wicket defeat at Norton Lindsey in the Cotswold Hills Premier League.
Shipston’s agony was compounded just before the finish when in-form Phil Hall was carried off after hurting his Achilles tendon.
Hall was in splendid form with the bat, hitting an unbeaten 77 as Shipston recovered from 135-9 to 181 all out.
Shipston raced to 50-3 in just eight overs with opener Harry Dube (26) among the runs.
But the visitors slumped to 62-5 and continued to lose wickets until Hall and last-man Dave Murphy (17) added 46 runs.
In reply, opener Steve Rushton made 81 as Norton put on 132 runs for the first wicket until Jack Murphy instigated a run-out.
Tom Cox (4-40) then made inroads and Jack Murphy (1-36) struck before Norton eventually sealed their triumph.
