EVESHAM United boss Paul Collicutt will still attempt to open talks with transfer target Ben Whitehead despite a rival boss insisting the move is a dead duck.
Collicutt confirmed the Robins had served league rivals Cirencester Town with an approach for the 12-goal striker last week with the required notice period set to expire tomorrow (Tuesday).
On the back of interest from United and Thatcham Town, Ciren boss Charlie Griffin was adamant that Whitehead would be staying put over the weekend.
"We put seven days in for Ben but that is not up until tomorrow (Tuesday)," said Collicutt.
"I am being told he has declined the offer but there is not one there yet because we haven't spoken.
"Perhaps Cirencester have done something with him but I cannot say too much because we haven't been in touch with the lad yet.”
Asked whether he would pursue talks with Whitehead, Collicutt replied: "That would be the thing to do. Perhaps they have done a deal, we will have to wait and see.”
