PERSHORE Tennis Centre players are on their way to Wimbledon for the second time this year.

The women's over 50s team won their national inter-club tournament quarter-final 3-1 against 45 Club, Surrey, to book an away match at The Wimbledon Club in the semis.

Earlier in the year the club’s Bradley Smith joined two other national finalists at British Tennis' Regional Young Volunteer of the Year 2017 at Wimbledon.

This season the women's team of Sarah McCormick, Beverley Morris, Jan Mason, Emma Bowen and Jackie Burton have beaten Knowle and Dorridge, East Gloucestershire, Warwick Boat Club and the 45 Club.

The players all represent Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

The winner will go through to the national finals in Birmingham on November 15.

Captain and club chairman McCormick said: “We weren’t expecting to beat such a large club — 600 members from all around the country.

"They didn’t know where Pershore was or even Worcestershire so the win was extra special.

"The semi-final against The Wimbledon Club will be a tough task with former British number one Clare Wood on the team but we’re definitely up for the challenge.”
