MANAGER Paul Collicutt has food for thought as Evesham United seek their Sunday best against FA Vase holders Thatcham Town tomorrow (3pm).

The Robins might have exited a second cup competition in four days on Wednesday, losing 3-2 at home to Stourbridge in the Southern League Cup, but a much-changed team performed admirably in the wake of a 5-1 FA Trophy defeat to Moneyfields.

Injuries and unavailability dictated the team sheet with Linden Dovey (foot), Carl Brown (ankle) and Steve Davies (groin) on the sidelines and substitutes Will Tunnicliff and Nathan Summers suffering from illness.

And with Ashley Williams and Shayne Anson likely to miss the next two or three months, Collicutt was pleased to see the likes of defender Liam Harding, striker James Campbell and fleet-footed wide man Tyrone Tucker-Dixon stake claims for starts.

“There were some good performances. That was Liam’s first competitive game for the club in 14 months and he did exceptionally well,” said Collicutt.

“We brought him off with quarter of an hour to go because he was tiring but those minutes would have done him the world of good.

“James did very well too, as did Tyrone who beat three or four players to put the ball in the back of the net. You cannot ask for more than that.

“Tyrone is only 19, has an infectious character and if he listens to what we tell him I am sure he can kick on.

“He plays with a smile on his face. He was delighted with his goal and so he should be because it was very good.

“Last Sunday left me pulling my hair out and it was hard to believe when you watch the lads perform like they did but then put in a real shift on Wednesday.

“It is my job to pick the team. The team I picked last weekend was not good and although the selection was put on us in midweek, every player did us proud.

“It gives me a few headaches now but I have no problem with that – in fact I love it.”

Cory Simpson and Nick Humphreys should come back into contention as Evesham tackle a promoted club that lifted silverware at Wembley in May.
