NICK Turton could be ready to boost Worcester City's arsenal ahead of Saturday's battle of the big guns against table-topping Ilkeston Town.

The striker has been sidelined since suffering a knee injury during a pre-season friendly at Redditch United in July but was seen doing some running prior to last weekend's 2-1 FA Vase victory over Long Eaton.

Assistant manager Ashley Vincent is due to run the rule over Turton in training tonight and his presence could prove timely for City on the back of the departure of Dave Reynolds and summer recruit Jordan Harrison suffering a dip in form.

“We are hopeful Turts will come through training and from there we can look at how he is,” said Vincent.

“There are four, five, maybe six forward players here but none of them are quite like him in that old-fashioned number-nine role with the hold-up play he can offer.

“He might not get tons and tons of goals but chips in with his fair share by taking a few hits, getting us on the ball and being a focal point for the attack.

“We probably don’t have that at the minute so for him to be back fit and playing well as soon as possible will help us immensely.”

Other than the question mark over Turton, Vincent anticipates having a full squad to pick from.
