BULLISH boss Les Jones reckons Pershore Town remain well placed to turn the corner – particularly after striker Nick Seabourne rejected a move to Coventry Sphinx.

Seabourne has already rattled in four goals since joining Town from Highgate United and turned down the chance to step back up a level.

Pershore may not have won in Jones’s six matches in charge – the latest a 2-0 defeat to Worcester City in the Worcestershire Senior Urn on Tuesday – but after bolstering his ranks further, he is starting to see progress.

“We had to start from a very low base,” said Jones.

“I expected there to be more of a base to work from. It has been tougher than expected in that respect but we knew what we were walking into.

“When I turned up we didn’t know any playing staff. We have brought in nine players so far and we need to bring in more.

“It is going to be a tough job but I feel confident on the back of the spirit they have showed.

“I think we can turn this around, get ourselves safe and push on next year in line with the new committee’s plan.”

On Seabourne staying, he added: “That is very good news. He was cup tied against Worcester and would have made a huge difference up front alongside Sam Clarke, who did very well.

“Going forward, that partnership looks like a very exciting prospect for us. I am delighted.”

Kyonn Evans, who played under Jones at Malvern Town, struck in each half of a scrappy encounter to seal City’s progress but Pershore did muster some credible chances during the latter part of the first half.

“We had signed a new player but he didn’t turn up on the night. It was a major disappointment and it upset our plans considerably,” said Jones.

“When you think we had that to deal with and a number of players being unavailable, I thought the performance was good and I can see progress week on week.

“The team and squad is getting stronger. This game came three weeks too early for us, we could have done with coming after a few extra weeks. Had that been the case we would have put on a better show.

“I couldn’t fault the lads, though, the effort was tremendous.”

Next up for Pershore is a trip to sixth-placed Bewdley Town in West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division on Saturday (3pm).

“Bewdley will be hard game but I feel good about our chances of getting a positive result,” said Jones.
