IT is 60 years since former Worcestershire schoolboys player Duncan Edwards died aged just 21 along with seven Manchester United team-mates after the Munich air disaster.

Dudley-born England international Edwards is pictured in the front row second from left in this 1949 photograph with his young county colleagues.

The team's matches included a game against Northamptonshire at Worcester City's former St George's Lane ground on December 29, 1949.

Edwards' county team-mate Billy Hunt attended a 60th anniversary tribute dinner in Dudley last month.

Hunt said: “I played with Duncan a couple of times.

"He was a great player and a ready-made footballer from his early teens. He was built like Spartacus.”

Hunt is pictured in the front row on the far right and goalkeeper David Partridge, who also attended the dinner, is in the back row third from left.

Versatile midfielder Edwards, one of the Busby Babes under United manager Matt Busby in the mid-1950s, played nine times for Worcestershire which is still a record today. He turned out 151 times for United.

A book, including this photograph, has been written by Jim Cadman and Iain McCartney to mark the anniversary of the 1958 crash and remember Edwards' short but action-packed life.
