CALLUM Ferguson will switch back to red-ball cricket during the next month and a half after a successful Big Bash for Sydney Thunder.

The Worcestershire batsman will return to Sheffield Shield action for South Australia in just under a fortnight.

Ferguson, the second-highest run scorer in Worcestershire's Vitality Blast triumph last year, is available to play in the final four games of the group stages and will be looking to help revive the Redbacks' fortunes.

They are currently bottom of the six-team table in which the top two go straight through to the final starting on March 27.

South Australia’s opening fixture when they resume will be against Tasmania in Adelaide from February 23.

Ferguson will have happy memories of the first meeting in Hobart after scoring a century, fighting a virtual lone hand in the second-innings of his side’s defeat.

He also scored two hundreds for South Australia in the JLT One-Day Cup and topped his State’s batting averages with 328 runs at an average of 54.66.

The quartet of Sheffield Shield games will represent Ferguson’s final taste of cricketing action before he returns to New Road on May 1 after getting married in April.
