EVESHAM’S young competitors enjoyed West Midlands Junior Rowing Championships success.

They returned with a haul of medals, national competition selections and steps towards Great Britain team level for two talented girls.

Gold medals were presented to quad Ella Shalom, Hannah Jones, Maddy Cross and Becca Parkin, double Shalom and Cross and quad Emily Jones, Georgie Banton, Charlie Akerman and Katie Ham.

One of the squad’s youngest newcomers Euan Woodfin finished second for a silver alongside double Jones and Akerman.

Singles Sam McClenahan, Sacha Wilson and Nelly Ledger took bronzes together with quad Tom Hill, Duncan Repton, Ben Ferris and Jack Harris.

Liv Evans in her single and double Banton and Ham finished fourth.

Following the trials Emily Jones, Banton, Akerman, Ham and Wilson together with team-mates Martha Robbins, Martha Bradley, Kate Dufty and Poppy Cullen all head towards national competitions.

Banton and Emily Jones will join Hartpury College Rowing Academy later in the year to study and train in conjunction with GB Rowing on their elite start programme which aims to develop future Olympians.

They will follow in the footsteps of recent Evesham rowers Frances Russell and Flo Pickles who have both represented GB.

Evesham coach Jacob Organ said: “Everyone in the squad worked hard in difficult conditions.

"They put in a fantastic effort supporting each other throughout the day and the result was some brilliant performances.

"The coaching staff are very proud of the achievements.”
