A YOUNG Vale golfer secured a World Junior Championship place in the USA after shining at the European equivalent.

Nine-year-old Louis Rickett, of Harvington, took part in the US Kids Golf European Championships for the fourth time.

He finished joint ninth out of a field of more than 80 at Musselburgh, Scotland, after enjoying rounds of 77, 74 and 75 for a 10-over-par total.

It was the second time Rickett, who was supported by caddy and coach Jamie Carney, had been in the top 10.

He qualified for the world championships at Pinehurst, North Carolina, in August to represent the United Kingdom, also for a fourth time.

Rickett has been playing golf since the age of four and participated in European and world junior events since 2015.

Later this year he will move house to continue his progress in the sport after being awarded a golf scholarship. To follow him visit facebook.com/louisrickett.
