FIRST-TEAM coach Alex Gidman believes Worcestershire are “one win away” from being back in the Specsavers County Championship Division Two promotion mix.
Worcestershire have not won in two months and their defeat to Derbyshire at Kidderminster on Wednesday saw them slip to second from bottom.
But with three promotion spots available this season and a game in hand on the top seven Gidman is unfazed by his side’s lowly position.
County who are 22 points behind third-placed Derbyshire tackle Durham at the Emirates Riverside on Saturday.
“There is a huge amount of cricket to be played” Gidman said.
“The beauty of the division this year is that it is very competitive so it is very tight and we’ve still played one game less than a lot of teams.
“We are genuinely one win away from being right back in the mix.”
Worcestershire’s last victory came against Durham in mid-May. But Durham have won three of their past five matches.
“It is generally a result wicket at Durham,” Gidman said.
“We’ve got to approach it with excitement and take the positive view of going there, winning and getting back in the mix.”
Worcestershire have an unchanged squad, with paceman Adam Finch in reserve and all-rounder Wayne Parnell still ruled out with a hamstring injury.
