PENNY Caves topped the tree when Ross Golf Club Ladies' Section held their Needham Cup and July Medal recently.

Fifty three took part with Caves winning the competition with a nett 70 and reducing her handicap by two to 20.

Sophie Price came second with a nett 71 but with the best gross score of 78.

Mary Smith and Erika Atkins came third and fourth with nett 73. Last month Ellie Teasdale won the Gordon Blake Cup with a nett 67, five shots below Kay Cotton who was second with a nett 72. Mary Smith and Pam Duke were third and fourth with nett 73.

As a result Teasdale's handicap was reduced by three to a well deserved 23.

The Muriel Button County Vets Competition, played on the same day was won by Sheila Curtis.

Alison Harvey and Denise Laird took top spot in the Silver Division. Meanwhile, Kay Cotton, Pam Duke and Jill Sutton took the prizes in the Bronze Division.

The Ladies Open Am Am was also played last month with 96 women from a variety of clubs playing with Ross members in glorious summer sunshine.

Chris Crane and Pam Duke with their guests Margaret Archer and Angela Canty won the competition with a very respectable score of 81 points. Caves with her guests Pat Darch, Patricia Green and Tilly Hare came a close second with 80 points. Meanwhile, Mabel Day and Maureen Turner with their guests Carol Millhouse and Patricia Beaman came third with 79 points.

Mary Royston won the Club Stableford with 38 points on countback from June Savidge. Caves was again competing and came a close third with 37 points.

The end of July Club Medal was won on the alternate day by Dinah Johnston with a nett 74.

Jennifer Gladwyn and Sue Johnson were second and third with nett 80.

Unfortunately the main day Tuesday Medal had to be cancelled due to torrential rain.
