EVESHAM and Badsey Hockey Club's women survived late pressure to hold on to a 2-1 home win over Lansdown thirds.

The success put the third-placed Vale side three points ahead of their opponents in West Clubs Women's League Severn Division Three.

The first half saw Evesham and Badsey put the pressure on.

They were boosted by solid defending from Zoe Miller and Molly Cresswell and the goalkeeping of player of the match Katy Priestley.

With the game goalless at the break Natalie Mottershead broke the deadlock in the second period after a neat passing move.

Lansdown hit back and equalised off a short corner.

But Evesham and Badsey continued to battle and were rewarded with a short corner which produced the winner in the last 10 minutes.

In the last minute three short corners were awarded to Lansdown but Evesham and Badsey defended them to the relief of captain Hannah Davies.

They visit Stroud thirds on Saturday.

The men's A side lost 5-2 at unbeaten Verde Recreo League The Marches Division One leaders Bishops Cleeve.

Evesham and Badsey bossed possession for the first few minutes, winning a short corner that was converted by Jacob Clements-Hunt with a well-struck shot into the bottom corner.

The hosts came back strongly and after a sustained period of resolute defending equalised from a goalmouth scramble.

Evesham and Badsey weathered a barrage of short corners including a goal-line block by Chris Clark and several saves from keeper Jamie Powell.

The pressure eventually told and Bishops Cleeve went ahead followed by a third goal just before half-time.

Evesham and Badsey missed a few chances early in the second period and were caught several times on the break with two more goals.

Their attacking play was eventually rewarded with another short corner converted by Clements-Hunt.

The A side host Stroud B on Saturday.

The previous weekend Evesham and Badsey first team won 4-2 at Cirencester B in The Marches Division One.

Marcus Humpston bagged a hat-trick with Callum Mason also on target.

They visit Bourton and Sherborne on Saturday.

n Pershore men's firsts lost 5-4 at Ludlow in West Midlands Division One after beating Edgbaston thirds 3-2 the previous weekend.

Gareth Rushton, Russell Mcgettigan and Ben Kreczmer-Martin scored against Edgbaston.

The seconds thrashed Worcester sevenths 11-0 in South West Four after winning 5-3 at Kidderminster in their last match.

Charlie Norton, Toby Whiting (2), Mark Passmore and Jamie Hughes were on target against Kidderminster.
