JUNIOR prospects from Worcester are continuing to make waves thanks to their performance at the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup.

The city club took to the pitch at an event hosted by Worcester Warriors at Sixways to help celebrate the 12th season of the nationwide grassroots rugby initiative.

Forty teams strutted their stuff across an under 12s and 11s festival.

Worcester under 11s demonstrated plenty of effort and skill but fell just short of earning a trip to the Gallagher Premiership final on June 20.

That honour instead went to Shrewsbury who will get the chance to meet a Land Rover rugby ambassador and join in a parade at half-time.

But, despite missing out on a place at Twickenham, Worcester’s Connor Allen was still proud of his side’s performances.

“I really enjoy the contact side of the game and being able to be myself when I play rugby on the weekends,” said Allen, 10, whose favourite player is Saracens’ Jamie George.

“I have been playing for three years now and I want to keep getting better each time I play.

"England getting to the final of the Rugby World Cup definitely inspired me.

“My dream is to put on the England jersey at Twickenham Stadium in the World Cup final and score the winning try.”

Participants at the festival also had the opportunity to meet Warriors player Ropate Rinakama who took time out of his schedule to watch the young teams as well as offer some coaching tips between games.

He said: “It’s an amazing opportunity to come here and engage with the kids of the future because we need the kids to see there is a pathway and that’s why I love coming here.

“It’s about giving hope to kids. We live in a world where there are a lot of things which can distract them but this is an opportunity to distract them in a positive fashion and teach them the integral values of rugby. I would do this every day if I could.”
