EVESHAM Golf Club seniors started their season with a three-club challenge.

Lush rough, slow fairways and fast greens made for a testing 18 holes.

Using only two clubs and a putter, Mick Hocking (21 handicap) had 27 points, Doug Wright (20) 28 and John Richards (11) 32.

Richards claimed the trophy despite three putting the last green.

The Vale seniors held an 18-hole stableford involving 42 members.

Steve Hampton, Mike Hird and Larry Taylor won with 49 points.

Colin Edey, Keith Watson and Peter Beech scored 48 to see off Bernard Rayner, Rob Sharp and Ian Macrae on countback.

Nearest the pin was John Milward.
