Worcestershire CCC will complete their pre-season programme with a two-day fixture with Kent in Canterbury today.

Worcestershire will field for the entire first day – regardless of how many wickets they take – and then will bat all day Saturday under the same criteria.

Head Coach Alex Gidman was in good spirits after the pre-season match with Somerset earlier in the week and believes it was a good work out ahead of the season opener with Essex at Chelmsford starting on April 8.

"The game had plenty of intensity," he said.

"That’s what Joe (Leach) asked of the players to try and keep going through the gears. It’s been an excellent pre-season, and we needed that kind of hard match to keep going through those gears, which is what we got so really pleased.

"We thought the players were outstanding. As we know, it’s not really about the results at this time of the year, it’s about the processes and the intensity the players play at in preparation for the season.

"Having spoken to Matt Walker (Kent Head Coach), what both teams haven’t had is a whole day in the field, and that’s the last box we need to tick, having 90 odd overs on our feet which we will have tomorrow.

“That’s perfect. It’s what both teams want, so we will stay out there regardless of how many wickets we take, whether it’s two or 12. We will keep going and bowl for 90 odd overs, which is exactly what we need to do.”

No changes have been made from the squad that played in the three-day match with Somerset earlier in the week.
