EVESHAM United's FA Cup journey came to a premature end last Saturday as Step Five Lichfield City produced an upset at The Spiers and Hartwell Jubilee Stadium.

City, a level below their hosts, enjoyed the perfect start to the game, scoring inside just 15 seconds when Regan Smith coolly slotted home following Jack Edwards' cross to the back-post.

The Robins pushed to level matters and did equalise 20 minutes later as the visiting goalkeeper misjudged a speculative long-ball forward.

Luke Taylor's excellent strike through a box full of bodies restored City's lead before the break as Evesham failed to clear their lines.

Lance Smith scored from the penalty spot on the hour to once more draw the hosts level but the the Robins again struggled to clear a ball into their box and Edwards capitalised, firing home under Lewis Clayton in goal.

It got worse for Evesham with 15 minutes to play when captain Matt Williams was sent-off and then Christian Blanchette secured Lichfield's place in the first round of qualifying after another pin-point delivery from Edwards in the dying moments.

They will host Step 3 Nuneaton Borough on September 4.
