WORCESTER Warriors have confirmed that lock Anton Bresler has been released from his contract to join French Top 14 side Racing 92 with immediate effect.

The Worcester News reported earlier this week that he was on the verge of signing but it is now official and Bresler looks set to make his debut this weekend as Racing face Castres in the Top 14.

Bresler, 33, joined Warriors from Edinburgh Rugby in December 2017 and made 64 appearances in his time at Sixways, his most recent as a replacement in the Premiership Rugby Cup victory over Bristol Bears two weeks ago.

During his time with Warriors Bresler became a popular member of the squad and made his 50th appearance against Harlequins at Sixways in August 2020.

He sustained a foot injury at the end of last season which required surgery and ruled him out for the first two months of this season.

It is with mixed emotions that we say goodbye to Bressie,” said Warriors Head Coach Jonathan Thomas.

“We are obviously disappointed to lose such a quality player but, most importantly, an outstanding person from our squad.

“At the same time we are pleased for Bressie that, at this stage of his career, he has got the opportunity to play in the Top 14 for Racing.

“I know the last 12 months have been tough for Bressie with the injuries he has had so this move is huge for him.

“I wish him and his family all the best and thank him for his efforts and commitment to the club and being such an important part of the Warriors Family for the past four years.”
