PERSHORE Town manager Danny Janes continued to haul his new side up the Hellenic League Division One table after The Plums beat Newent Town 4-2 to register their third straight league win.

Pershore did fall behind early on when Morgan Davies capitalised on the home side trying to play out from the back to tuck it past the keeper and put the visitors in front.

But goals from Aidan Clark, Matt Nutt and Kirk Layton put Pershore 3-1 ahead at the break before Petar Tonchev made it 4-1 mid-way through the second-half.

Tyler Weir responded in the final quarter as Newent pushed for a way back into the game but eventually the home side held out for the three points.

“The win is another positive result and we have now dispatched of three teams in and around us in the league.” said Janes.

“I felt in phases of the game against Newent we played some of the best football I have seen since we arrived at the club.

“The players played with patience in possession but a real intensity in terms of ball circulation and movement.

“The pitch was heavy and difficult, the players were excellent in their execution.”

Janes was quick to heap praise on his players with some fantastic individual performances to boost a good team display.

“Kirk Layton was again outstanding, Matt Ennis was a constant threat for us, Josh Willis’ delivery caused so many problems and Steve Webb’s distribution was pivotal,” added Janes.

“We always celebrate the positives but address areas to develop and we will reflect on the game and take that into Saturday.”
