Pershore Town's promising young defender Matt Nutt has moved up three levels to join an unnamed Step 3 club.

Nutt was one of the players brought in by manager Danny Janes and the centre-back went on to register 21 appearances in the side that won a remarkable non-league cup treble in the 2021/22 season.

Janes admitted it was not an approach they were expecting, but admits he would never stand in the way of a player looking to progress through the levels.

"Nutty is a big loss, we never accounted for losing him but when a Step Three club comes in, it's hard to turn that opportunity down." said Janes.

"I was made aware by the respective club that they were interested and we would never get in the way of a player leaving, especially because they are moving up the pyramid.

"Myself and Tom actually told Matt that we felt he was at the age now to accept the opportunity, despite us not wanting to lose him.

"A lot of clubs boast when one of their players have progressed and they are glad to have played a part in that player's journey, we are not a feeder club, I am delighted for Nutty but my main focus is Pershore Town Football Club and our progress.

"We have moved quickly to solve the situation, and I am delighted with the outcome. We wish Matt all the best on his journey and he knows we will be supporting him.

"He played a huge part in the success last season and he leaves knowing how much of an impact he had."
