TWO late goals denied Evesham United a deserved draw with National League North side Banbury United on Tuesday night in a 3-1 defeat.

The Robins went ahead in the first-half thanks to Connor Jakeways' brilliant first-time volley before Banbury equalised on the hour through Aidan Hawtin's free-kick.

The visitors piled on the pressure in the second-half but good saves from Evesham's Fraser Barnsley kept the score at 1-1.

But Banbury would not be denied as late goals from Ben Acquaye and Henry Landers secured a late victory.

It was a tame opening 20 minutes but the game sprung into life when Evesham took the lead.

A superb cross from right-back Elliot Keightley was whipped into the box and Connor Jakeways thumped a first time volley from close range into the net.

There were few other moments of goalmouth action at either end as Evesham frustrated their National League North opponents.

Into the second-half and Banbury dominated possession and should have equalised but Giorgio Rasulo could not convert from inside the box with his curling effort.

The equaliser did come on the hour as striker Hawtin rifled a low free-kick into the bottom corner.

It could have quickly become two for Banbury as a trialist drew a top save out of Evesham's keeper Fraser Barnsley , who also kept out Henry Landers as the visitors piled on the pressure.

Ben Acquaye hit the bar as the game approached the final 15 minutes but the pressure on Evesham's goal eventually told as Acquaye rifled a low strike past Barnsley.

Two became three just a minute later as Landers beat the offside trap before dinking a finish into the net, much to the joy of the travelling support.
