Evesham United have extended their stay in the FA Trophy as they secured a 1-0 victory against Lymington Town FC on Saturday in the Second Qualifying Round.

A pinpoint half-volley late-on from Evesham’s Owen James was enough to see The Robins advance past the Hampshire-based side, a team they will play again this weekend.

From minute one, the home side always looked in control – golden chances from James in the 21st minute and Dan Griffiths on the stroke of half-time showed promise for Evesham.

Despite a valiant second-half display by the visitors, an Owen Feet one-on-one and a brilliant save by Nico Troganowski were some of the highlights for Lymington, James’ broke the deadlock in the 79th minute to seal the fate of the game.

Evesham will now face Southern League Premier Central outfit Leiston away from home in the third round of qualifying.

Leiston, who play a level above Evesham in Step 3, currently sit fifth in their table, having won four, drawn three and lost two.

This weekend, as mentioned, Evesham and Lymington will again do battle, this time in the Southern League Division One South.

The Robins will be looking to get back to winning form in the league after being humbled away at Exmouth Town tow weekends ago.

Mike Ford's side sit in sixth place, one position out of the play-offs, but a win would almost certainly see them jump back into the top five.
