IT was late heartbreak for Evesham United last weekend as a 93rd-minute winner from AFC Totton's Charlie Davis denied The Robins a point on the road.

The hosts had taken an early lead in the game through Scott Rendell, who took advantage of captain Charlie Wise's hesitancy in possession to give his side the lead.

Having threatened all game for an equaliser, it finally came for The Robins with 13 minutes left to play as Daniel Griffiths headed home from Kyle Belmonte's free-kick.

But with time almost up, Davis became the hero on debut as he blazed one home through a number of bodies to sink Evesham and hand all three points to Totton.

It ended a stretch of five games unbeaten for Mike Ford's Evesham in the Southern League Division One South but they just about remain in the play-off places in fifth.

It had been a promising start for Evesham as Belmonte went close from a free-kick and generally, they had settled quickest and looked comfortable in the difficult conditions.

But that was wiped out in the 14th minute when Rendell picked the pocket of Wise in possession as the last man and with keeper Joshua Nicol out of position, the Totton striker slotted home to take the lead.

Evesham had plenty of the ball but could not create a clear-cut chance and they were behind at the break.

Totton were providing a tough but to crack for Evesham, throwing themselves in the way of most things The Robins tried.

But they finally made the breakthrough in the 77th minute as Belmonte's inswinging free-kick was met by Griffiths' head and the ball nestled in the net to bring Evesham level.

You would have thought it would be the visitors who would go onto win it from there but despite their best efforts, they ended up with zero points as Davis swept home after the ball pinged around the Evesham box.
