A LOCAL Evesham swimmer collected 11 medals, including nine goals, at the Worcestershire County Championships.

Milton Xavier Yau competed in his first championships and won an incredible nine Golds and two Silvers.

Milton, 10, competed in the 11 and under category at the event that took place on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 January and Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 February 2023.

Milton took nine first placed finishes in the 100 and 200 Fly, 100 and 200 Individual Medley, 100, 200 and 400 Free, 100 and 200 Breaststroke. Milton also finished in Silver position in the 50 Fly and 50 Free.

He now qualifies for the West Midland Championships for the 12 year old age group in the 100, 200 and 400m Freestyle plus the 50 and 100m Fly and 200m Individual Medley. This will take place at the end of April and early May this year. 

Daniel Kryzwicki also retained his crown as 200 Backstroke Champion in the 12 Year Old Age Group, winning Gold. This year Daniel also added the 100 Backstroke event to his achievements and took silver in the 50 Back.

Daniel will also compete at the West Midland Regional Championships later in the year in all three events.

This year Evesham Swimming Club saw 44 members qualify for the 2023 Championships that were held in Wolverhampton and Worcester.

38 swimmers entered, representing ESC in a total of 189 events. 75% of the swims were Personal Best times achieved which shows the amazing progress for all of the swimmers involved.

In addition to the 14 medals scooped by Milton and Daniel the club won a further 21 Medals by 10 additional swimmers.

Mollie Broom (11 and under, 6 Silver and 2 Bronze), Annabelle Blackbird (12 years, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze), Matt James (16 years, 2 Bronze), Jasper Siupa (11 and under, 1 Silver), George Milner (12 years, 1 Silver), Ed Rice (13 years, 1 Silver), Sophia James (13 years, 1 Bronze), Poppy Walker (11 and under, 1 Bronze) , Molly Houghton (12 years, 1 Bronze), Daisy Gregg (16 years, 1 Bronze).

The medal haul this year beats the 2022 total by adding a further 15 medals.

Head Coach Graham Begley said: "At ESC, we celebrate the success of our swimmers in the pool but also their achievements and attitude out of the pool.

"Every member who represented the club gained valuable skills and knowledge from competing over a range of events this year and we recognise the development they are all making as a team in this incredibly tough individual sport.

"Every swimmer, parent, coach, poolside helper and volunteer all support the success together and we achieve it together. I am so proud of what we are continuing to achieve year on year."
