AIDAN Clark scored four goals as league leaders Pershore Town put eight past Littleton to take a step closer to the Hellenic League Division One title.

Despite only leading 1-0 at the break, The Plums turned on the style in the second-half as Clark scored three more to take his personal tally to 29 for the 2022/23 season.

Danny Murphy also got himself on the score sheet before Josh Willis added two from the bench. Jake Donnelly added the eighth as Pershore hit 93 goals in the league with 10 games still to play.

That win was made even more pleasing after Milton United - Pershore's biggest threat to the title - suffered a shock defeat to Southam United, meaning Danny Janes' side now have a four-point lead at the summit and eight over Milton, who have one game in hand.

At full-time, manager Janes described it as the "perfect day".

"Three points, a clean sheet and eight goals scored, the perfect day." said Janes.

"To win in that manner is always pleasing, but it's not about the score line, it's the application of the players and what they did within their performance which is the most pleasing aspect.

"The pitch made it very difficult and it levels the game slightly. The players were brave and stuck to our principles, we knew the ball would be turned over more than we would like, but the desire to recover on transition was outstanding.

"We lacked that detail in the final third which was frustrating, to get the goal just before half-time gave the players a huge lift.

"Half-time we asked for a slight variation in the play in terms of forward movement, the players carried out those instructions superbly and the quality of pass caused Littleton a lot of problems.

"We just had too much quality, every player did their job well and when that happens, the result will always arrive. There isn't a team that works as hard as our players. There is so much demand in and out of possession. They are a phenomenal group.

"We were obviously aware of other results; I had a few comments after the game that we must be pleased as that releases the pressure slightly. Not at all, if anything, it increases the pressure because now we have to back up this result next Saturday and continue to pick up maximum points. It is all about us, no one else, there is plenty of football still to play and we have to keep delivering."
