EVESHAM Swimming Club has a new regional champion after Milton Xavier Yau won the 100m Freestyle event in the 12-year-old category at the West Midlands Regional Championships.

11-year-old Yau competed in his first Regional Championships over two busy Bank Holiday weekends at The Alan Higgs Centre in Coventry.

Yau claimed his first Championship Gold in the 12-year-old age group in the 100m Freestyle achieving an incredible 1:07.97. He later went on to secure Bronze in the 400 Free in a time of 5:12.62.

Sixteen swimmers qualified for the Regional Championships for Evesham this year, the highest number recorded for the club. Fourteen of these swimmers competed in the Championships and all recorded personal best times throughout the championships.

Together, they reached 14 finals between them which is an incredible increase on last year’s number.

Ed Rice, Jasper Siupa, Annabelle Blackbird, Syd Byrd and Jess Griffiths all experienced Finals through the championships, some narrowly missing out on a medal position.

Sophia James, Sophie Walters, Molly Houghton, Chloe Honeywell, Daniel Kryzwicki, George Milner, Mollie Broom and Katy Smith all had exceptional swims throughout the Championships.

Graham Begley, Head Coach commented: "This has been a steep increase in success for Evesham at this level.

"Milton led the way with his success over the Championships but he has been supported by an incredible group of teammates who encourage, support and stretch each other continually. I am so proud of what the swimmers are achieving together."
