JOSH Willis' second-half strike was enough to seal the three points for Pershore Town as they made it two wins in three Hellenic League Premier games to start the new season.

Sean Brain had given The Plums a 1-0 lead after just 30 seconds, but they were pegged back mid-way through the half when Jordan Chappelle fired past Eddie Cox on the rebound.

Lewis Marston had named a strong bench and with 17 minutes remaining, it was one of his substitutes that got the winner as Willis cut in from the right onto his left foot and struck low into the bottom corner.

Pershore then held on for another three points to add to Saturday's 5-1 victory at Lydney Town, keeping them third in the table after three games.

Marston's newly-promoted side have made an encouraging start to the 2023/24 season and are unbeaten after three games with seven points from a possible 9.

They do have a game in hand on leaders Worcester Raiders, whom they held to a 0-0 drawn in the opening game of the campaign at the start of the month

But those who felt Pershore might struggle in a higher league have been proved wrong early on and the signs look positive for Pershore that they might surprise a few.
