EVESHAM United moved off the bottom of the Southern League Division One South table on Saturday thanks to their first win of the season at home to Bashley.

After going seven league matches without a victory - four draws and three defeats - The Robins ended that unwanted run with a late win at The Spiers & Hartwell Stadium.

Levi Steele and Alfie Dunn scored just 60 seconds apart in the 82nd and 83rd minute of the game to secure a vital first victory of the 2023/24 campaign, lifting them off the foot of the table.

The first half had a similar feeling for Evesham; looking good in the defensive and midfield areas but not being able to convert it into goals.

There were a couple of clear-cut chances in the first half, however. Striker Steele was put through on goal but his effort was somehow saved off the line by the Bashley defender.

The two sides played in the FA Trophy qualifying round in early September and it had a very similar feel but this time, Evesham took their chances.

A few minutes before the first goal, Steele looked destined to score but his effort was cleared off the line again and the follow-up effort from Amer Awadh sailed over the bar.

However, just less than ten minutes from time, Alfie Dunn popped up at the third time of asking after two wonder saves from Bashley’s Ross Casey to slam home the opener.

One minute later, new boy Keon Sanniola ran down the left-hand side and a simple pass across goal was tapped in by Steele who once again got himself on the scoresheet to settle the result.

Evesham move off the bottom of the table and will look to make it back-to-back wins against Bristol Manor Farm on Tuesday night.
