EVESHAM United fell to the first defeat of their Southern League Premier South campaign, taking a 1-0 defeat away at Havant & Waterlooville.

The Robins started the bout hot, as they had finished the last in their 3-1 victory over Basingstoke. Almost immediately Will Owens came close from a set piece.

Two early free kicks fell for him, with the first going under the keeper but narrowly missing before the second was blocked with Levi Steele narrowly missing the follow-up effort.

However after 23 minutes played, the visitors took the advantage.

Hawks stopper Ben Dudzinski launched the ball forward which was met by Evesham substitute Jyrell Bojang.

Bojang could only knock it as far as Mitchell Aston, who duly played it to Ryan Seager inside the centre circle.

Seager spotted Jenson Kilroy off his line. Kilroy lobbed the keeper from well out with his first touch in what would proved to be the only goal of the occasion.

Levi Steele came close in the second period, lunging at the ball in the box to desperately try and turn it home against a scrambling Dudzinski but he just couldn't get enough behind the ball to stop it rolling through on the wrong side of the post.

With 15 minutes to play, Ethan Dunbar came close twice.

First he struck the ball on the volley but was disappointed to see it cascade back out off the crossbar. Moments later he met a header in the air but couldn't keep it down and watched it fly over the bar.

Evesham continued to knock on the door in the final minutes. Steele would hit the crossbar again for Evesham, attacking a cross into the area and beating Dudzinski with his header, but not the woodwork.

Following the narrow defeat, Evesham will next travel to play Poole Town on Saturday, August 23.
