LEWIS Middleton ensured Evesham's FA Cup journey continued, firing them past Racing Club Warwick in the second round qualifying replay.

The two sides couldn't be split at the first time of asking as United battled back from a 3-0 deficit to force the replay with a 3-3 draw.

With Middleton's second-half strike proving the difference in the replay, Mike Ford's side will progress into the third qualifying round of the competition, away at AFC Telford on Saturday, September 27.

A scrappy start to the game early on saw both sides pushing forward and threatening but neither able to test the opposite goalkeeper.

Evesham's best chance in the first half fell on the 30-minute mark.

Ethan Dunbar was unleashed by Andre Wright. The forward broke free and unleashed a shot which rebounded just too far for Kai Churchley to tap it home.

It was more of the same as the second half kicked off - Evesham applied more pressure but struggled to find that key goal to make it count.

Dunbar came agonisingly close before firing straight across the goalmouth, before Middleton chased down a loose ball and came within inches of angling it home while sliding at the near post.

However, with 20 minutes to play, Middleton proved the difference and netted the only strike if the match, to power Evesham into the next round of the cup.

He took the ball in his stride, cut back past his man and lasered an effort into the back of the net.

Evesham held out until the final whistle to earn their place in the next round.
