EVESHAM United narrowly fell to Farnham Town in a game consisting mostly of long balls and defensive organisation, where clear cut chances were a rare occurrence.

The home side looked strong within the first 20 minutes, easily dealing with any defensive danger whilst controlling the pace of the game when they were in possession of the ball.

The Robins used this momentum to eventually secure the first goal of the game, coming from star striker Levi Steele calmly slotting his shot into the bottom corner in the 29th minute.

With Evesham’s first goal being the best chance of the game, Farnham were now determined to one up their opposition and even up the game.

Just nine minutes after the game's opening goal, the visitors fired in a cross after a short corner – resulting in an own goal from the home side, seeing their one goal advantage to disappear.

With just five minutes left before the break, Farnham turned up the intensity – creating another big chance from a perfect cross – nudged over the crossbar by a delicate header.

The Robins continued to struggle after the half-time break, with all the momentum now with their opposition.

After a spell of intricate passing and perfect movement, Farnham took the lead with a perfect finish from Joe Jackson.

With another two shots on Alex Harris’ goal within the next three minutes, the home side were under the most pressure they had felt so far – desperately trying to even up the affair.

Just 20 minutes into the second period Evesham received their first yellow card,.

The away side began to control the game after this booking, with Farnham slotting the ball into the back of the Evesham net after some unconvincing defending – before being ruled out by the linesman’s flag.

With Evesham’s goalkeeper keeping the home side in the clash, the away team recognised their control of the game – keeping possession and risking very little in the final 30 minutes of the fixture.

After clipping the crossbar; nearly making it three goals, the home side’s fan’s began to lose hope of a comeback as Farnham drained the energy from The Spiers and Hartwell Stadium.

A rare sight of belief shot through the stands as six minutes added time was shown, however what looked like an experienced Farnham side managed the clock well and saw out the game for a 2-1 victory.

This result drops Evesham to 10th in the league standings, with four losses in their past five fixtures.

Farnham jump up to eighth in the Southern Premier League table, continuing their three game win streak in all fixtures.

Evesham now turn their focus onto their upcoming fixture next Saturday (November 15) against Chertsey, who currently sit 14th – four places below the Robins.
